Key Responsibilities
• Supervise the daily movement of cargo within the terminal, ensuring efficient loading, offloading, and storage operations.
• Coordinate vessel operations, including berth planning, cargo discharge, loading activities, and turnaround times.
• Allocate work to operational staff, equipment operators, and contractors to ensure productivity targets are achieved.
• Monitor operational performance and ensure compliance with service level agreements and operational KPIs.
• Liaise with shipping lines, transporters, clearing agents, warehouse teams, and customers regarding cargo movement and operational requirements.
• Ensure all cargo documentation, operational records, and reporting are completed accurately and submitted on time.
• Monitor equipment utilisation and report maintenance requirements to minimise operational downtime.
• Investigate operational delays and implement corrective actions to improve efficiency.
• Ensure compliance with all port regulations, company procedures, Quality, Health, Safety and Environmental (QHSE) standards.
• Conduct toolbox talks and promote a strong safety culture within the operation.
• Assist with workforce planning, shift scheduling, and performance management of operational staff.
• Participate in continuous improvement initiatives to optimise terminal operations and customer service.
Minimum Requirements
• Grade 12 (Matric).
• A tertiary qualification in Logistics, Supply Chain, Port Operations, or a related field will be advantageous.
• Minimum 3–5 years' experience in port, terminal, container depot, or logistics operations.
• Previous supervisory or team leader experience within a port or terminal environment.
• Sound understanding of cargo handling, container operations, vessel planning, and terminal procedures.
• Knowledge of health and safety legislation and operational compliance requirements.
• Experience working with operational systems and Microsoft Office.
• Strong planning, organisational, and problem-solving abilities.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Willingness to work shifts, weekends, public holidays, and overtime when required.
