Key Focus Areas:
• Prepare accurate and competitive quotations and costings for break bulk sea freight shipments.
• Analyse cargo requirements, obtain supplier rates and calculate complete shipment costs and margins.
• Manage break bulk shipments from quotation and pre-arrival through vessel discharge, customs clearance, transport and final delivery.
• Coordinate with shipping lines, vessel agents, port/terminal operators, stevedores, transporters and other service providers.
• Monitor vessel schedules, cargo discharge, customs clearance, port activities and delivery timelines.
• Review and reconcile Bills of Lading, invoices, packing lists, manifests and cargo details.
• Coordinate customs documentation and follow up on releases, inspections and queries.
• Arrange transport, ensuring suitable vehicles and equipment are available for oversized or specialised cargo.
• Track cargo movements and investigate discrepancies, damages, shortages or delays.
• Maintain accurate shipment files, costings and supplier rate databases.
• Monitor shipment profitability, quoted vs actual costs and potential additional charges such as storage and demurrage.
• Provide clients with regular shipment updates and proactively communicate delays, additional costs and operational issues.
Minimum Requirements:
• Grade 12 / Matric.
• Previous experience in sea freight forwarding or clearing and forwarding.
• Strong break bulk experience.
• Previous experience preparing freight quotations and estimates.
• Knowledge of South African port and shipping operations.
• Understanding of Bills of Lading, manifests and shipping documentation.
• Understanding of customs clearance processes.
• Strong Excel and numerical skills.
• Strong commercial and analytical ability.
